PLEASE sign this if you're in Israel.

The latest BS from the Israeli postal service: they will now be charging a fee, between 35 shekels to hundreds, just to receive a package from overseas. This has been a free service until now.

You can read about it here:

If this pisses you off half as much as it does me, please sign this petition: http://www.atzuma.co.il/petition/amazoni11/1/1000/

This is outrageous and I hope this issue gets as much exposure as possible.

Why is this outrageous? the postal service turned into a public company, they can charge whatever they want for their services, just like DHL or FedEx can.

The fact that you've grown accustomed to not paying this fee does not make it outrageous that it now applies.

If the postal service provided anything near the same level of service as Fedex or DHL, Maybe it would not be so outrageous.

Just because they CAN charge anything they want doesn't make it okay. If you can't see why having to pay 100s of shekels just to receive a package (not including the shipping fees you ahve to pay anyway, of course) is outrageous, well... I can't help you. Sorry.

As for the level of service, I've had my share of disappointment from FedEx, UPS, DHL AND the postal office. Nobody's perfect, and the latter is still the cheapest.

The world is getting rid of its last socialistic remains, heading towards the free market era where capital is king, not fairness, nor equality.

If Landlords can charge whatever they feel like for rent (and there will still be buyers standing in line) and if Bakeries can do the same for bread, so can the Post Office.

    Hell, so can YOU.

I did not ask for your help, thank you. I was merely expressing my opinion.

me, the postal service is not public, and that's precisely the problem- it has been privatized.

In the case of FedEx and DHL, there's competition, but there's no competition when it comes to the basic postal service. When shipping has already been paid for a package, the postal service shouldn't be charging for delivering it, they're not doing anyone a favor- that's what they're there for.

There's more- what they're saying is that they're charging, because someone has to separate those packages where people have to pay tax and customs on, and those that have a value of less than $50. So they're charging to cover that cost, which means- taxing the non-taxed packages, which doesn't make any sense.

This is wrong, this hurts everyone's right to shop wherever they want. If I buy something aborad for less than $50 and therefore don't have to pay customs and tax for it, I shouldn't have to pay an extra $10 just to actually receive the package.

What's next? charging an entrance fee to the post office?

As for landlords- that's what "market forces" are. If there's a demand, by enough people willing to pay higher rent- it doesn't matter that there are also others who can't pay that rent (as painful as it may be to be one of those who can't live anywhere they might want), and indeed, the government offers solutions to those who can't afford rent anywhere, that's why there aren't many homeless people in Israel. They also make sure that basic food products have fixed prices, and they cover the different of the cost. You mentionned bread, and you probably know that bread is one of those products. Any bakery that wants to make another type of bread and charge a different price for it can do it, but the basic bread is always at a price that everyone can afford.

But in the case of the postal service- our government has privatized the service, without ensuring that a decent basic service is available to everyone.

    That is very, very wrong.

(And it has nothing to do with socialism, it has to do with the basic service a citizen has the right to receive from the government to which they pay their hard earned tax money).

I am so pissed off about this pathetic ruling. it is unfair, it puts back into the dark ages. it is very disturbing.
I can't believe they even dare compare themselves to FedEx and dhl. it is very wrong. I hope the petition will help in some way.
