Odd Lot
I went to Indi's (Hebrew link) last night to whine and complain about how much life sucks. Actual conversation, give or take...
"Me and relationships", I begin to explain, even though I'm sure she got the general idea hours ago - "it's like mixing Boro with Satake. You can try it any way you like, but your bead will always, always crack." I bite the head off an oversized gummy bear, with much aggression. "But really, come to think of it - you can mix Boro with other Boro colors. You can mix Satake with Satake. Me, I'm like this bizarre type of glass, with a weird COE that isn't compatible with anything else."
I contemplate this for a brief moment or two, when I suddenly have an epiphany.
"I am Lauscha Strawberry!" I almost jump off the sofa with excitement. "Yes! I am Lauscha Strawberry. Mix me with any other color in the world, and I will definitely make it crack. Go ahead! Try me."
"But it's a beautiful and special color!" Indi tries to see the bright side.
"But you can't do anything with it. It'll just sit on the shelf forever, because I can't use it in my beads. Lauscha Strawberry is stupid. Being Lauscha Strawberry sucks."
"I'm sure you could make beautiful beads using just one color."
"SPACERS?! After all I've been through, I have to be spacers? I don't want to be spacers. Spacers are stupid. They're boring. They just take up space."
"Well, you could make hollow beads with it! You could put gold or silver over them! That would be cool!"
"I don't want to be a hollow bead. I can't even make hollow beads. Hollow beads are stupid. They're, like, hollow." I torture a gummy worm (or snake, or whatever they are supposed to be) to death.
"You could put frit over it! That would probably work. Wouldn't it?"
"I don't want to put frit over it. That would just make it crack. Frit is stupid."
Indi gives up and offers to adopt my 2-pound stash of Lauscha Strawberry, so she can make hollow beads with it. She definitely deserves it - it was a long night. I find myself wondering what would happen if a gummy bear mated with a gummy wormsnakethingie. Would you get a really long bear, or a really short snake? (And just imagine the colors!)

HEY I could do wonders with a little Lauscha Strawberry bead I could paint on it.

There is too many kinds of glass anymore for Shopmonkeys to stay on top of all of them, but seems like you could think about a few things in regard to your Strawberry:
1) It's on the high side of COE 104, and is thus incompatable - you could try using it with a bit of slightly higher COE glass, like Satake soda at 113, and see what happens.
2) It's on the low side of 104, and thus incompatable - go in the other direction, and use it with some system 96 and see what happens.
3) The problem is not with the Strawberry, but with the other glass - the Strawberry is just so awesome that the other glass it is paired with is jealous... yeah! jealous! of Strawberry's awesomeness! and feels so insecure in it's relative suckiness that it totally blows Strawberry off cause of shame, and then Strawberry is all like, WTF?, and feels bad cause she thinks it was something she did, when really it was the other glass who had "issues". Strawberry shouldn't feel bad, cause Strawberry was too good for that stupid jerk anyway.
Purely in Shopmonkey's professional opinion, anyway.
Loves and kisses,
shopmonkeys

Having been in the position of "why hasn't he called???" a few times, I would have to say that atleast he respected you enough not to keep you waiting by the phone forever. It's a very small consolation, and having been in that position, I always blame the other and never myself. So don't blame yourself. You are probably just ready for a relationship, and this is fate's way of letting you know he would be the totally wrong guy. You're better off finding out sooner rather than later. "The one" has a way of popping up when you are not ready. So don't fret!

Hey, being there is an important roll for a friend, and i'm very happy i could do it. plus, moaning needs to get out. just needs to.
about the strawberry, i want it just to spite! and show you it could play nicely all by itself. plus, i do believe that if you've gone and checked its compatibility with each and every one of all the circa COE 104 glasses in the world, you would be able to find some that will play along without cracking.
and a big hug too. you ARE great and you should know it.

I've never been fortunate enough to get see Lauscha Strawberry - or you - face to face, but from seeing your work, I simply can't believe any colour won't eventually do what you want it to. The right match will come along, and it'll be the best combo ever.

Hey, Sarah -
I spent 33 years being Lauscha Strawberry. I got so fed up with it, I quit my job, quit my therapist, and went and sat on a beach in Barcelona for 4 months so another colour had chance to emerge... It worked. Within 5 weeks of being back (and wondering if I should re-pack my rucksack and set off hiking the Inca trail) I allowed myself to be talked into going on a blind date and the rest is history. Sometimes we need time out in order to break cycles we find ourselves in.
Practice on the Venetians. Have fun in Venice.
