New Beads

I have some new auctions up!
My current obsession is metal foils. This week I've been working with copper, silver and gold foils, beginning to understand how to work with them - but I have a feeling there's still a whole shiny world out there to discover. One of my favorite things about glass is how new "worlds" seem to be popping up all the time. Ah, so much to melt, so little time.

So, here we go:

Harvest Gold

In this set, as you can guess, I used lots of gold foil. I have to say that working with gold is somewhat of a bizarre experience - I mean, I'm not used to working with precious metals and all - it's weird that each time I make a mistake and have to throw out a bead, it costs me in 23-karat gold. Besides, I've never been much of a gold-jewelry person - I always prefered silver - but I just love how the gold looks on the glass. I am really growing to appreciate this fine metal.
I promise this is my last set - for this year at least - that will have the words "harvest" or "autumn" in the title. I need a new word.

Another round set with larger beads - I discovered I really like making the beads a bit larger. They're much more challenging this way, with suddenly lots more room for detail (who would have thought), and besides, there's something about this size that just feels nice in your hand.
I love these colors!

Through the Grapevine

This set is kinda wild. I used some frit (crushed glass) in these beads, which gives them, besides the glorious purple tones, an interesting spotted/swirly look in some places. They were fun to make!

Spaced Out

And now for the silver foil. Also fun to work with, but in a totally different way. These beads were made with cobalt and clear glass, and all the other colors you see come from the silver. In some places I encased the silver and it stayed shiny (in some places it looks like gold and I am still trying to figure out why. Cool effect though).

Tomorrow (hopefully) I will have another set with lots of silver - and it's a really cool set, I can't wait to take pictures. Also, another batch of orphans - including lots of Olympia Rain beads, some silver foil beads, raku beads, and many more - will be available on eBay in the next few days.

Have a great week!
