New tricks, new beads

Sorry for not writing for soooo long! I've had a lot on my mind, and also just been a little lazy I guess.
After a very long period of undecisiveness, I finally decided not to move. I went to see a couple of apartments, and then I realized that I'm never going to find my dream apartment because I already live in my dream apartment. So I'm going to be staying here at least till June. I'm happy with my decision - it's really a huge weight off my chest. I hate moving so much. I know I will have to, eventually... but I guess this just wasn't the right time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now to the interesting stuff. I learned a new trick last week - making my own murrini! They are made by forming a "blob" of glass with different colored rods, arranged in a certain formation, then pulling the blob into a rod, annealing it and slicing it into "chips". It was a little frustrating challenging at first, but I think I got the hang of it. It's time-consuming, but in a fun way! I have lots of ideas for it now. This is the first batch:

And these are the beads I made with the first batch:

Woodstock

I named this set Woodstock, because the reactive colors I used formed these cool tie-dye-ish sixties patterns. I did not see that coming!

And then, I tried something I hadn't done in a while - long barrel beads! I can't remember why I stopped making them. This is such a great shape for me, because there is so much surface for detail!

Jungle Fever

I love these colors - doesn't this set just have "autumn" written all over it?
Ahhhh, autumn... I wish it was autumn. August is the hottest month of the year here. sometimes I am amazed at myself for being able to get used to working in such heat!

And now, well... I just can't stop making barrels! They are so much fun. I'm also liking the idea of making larger sets, with different shapes and sizes - sort of like a set of sets. These wildly colorful beads were made with my second batch of murrini:

I'm getting a little better at this as I go along. This set kinda reminds me of Indian fabric. These will be on eBay later today.

And for this set I added another element that I'm growing to like: raised clear dots, which add a lot of sparkle.

These will also be on eBay
later today.

    hi Sarah
its good to hear from you and know that you are safe and settled in your home as moving right now would be extra stress for you. You are obviously focussing on experimenting on new bead creations - the possibilities are endless as you prove all the time. You are a very talented artist with a growing following. I love the hippie set! (and all of the others!! )
    Take care!
